Virb

February 29, 2008 · 5 Comments

You can now find a few of my songs on virb.com.  My page is still pretty shabby, and I feel a bit silly having a virb page when there are some extremely talented artists on there.  Oh well.  There’s a guy at UPC with his own recording studio and I’m hoping to record some new stuff before Mel and I move.

Maybe It Doesn’t Exist

I wish there was a program, similar to iTunes, that allowed users to upload their own recorded music and sell it directly.  No record labels or anything like that.  Just put my songs up there and let people buy them.  Like ebay, really, only without the bidding part.

I think music distribution is headed that direction anyway.  Not all of it, maybe, but there are millions of amateur musicians with access to decent recording technology now, and I’m sure the majoriy of them would love to have a place to just post their music for some small profits.

The problem is, how do you avoid a copyright infringement circus?  That I don’t know.

I just really want a place to put my music up for grabs.  I also wouldn’t mind starting the website/program that would make it possible.  Sell your songs for $0.50 each - $.45 goes to the artist, $0.05 goes to the company that owns the program.

Is there already something like that?

Free At Last

I’ve heard people say that the future of music will involve unsigned artists uploading their songs directly (onto, say, iTunes) and receiving royalties equally directly.

Apparently it’s already starting.

Last.fm is a website that does exactly that.  I think I’m going to try and promote myself.  Hopefully I don’t get ripped off or anything…
