Third Floor

May 22, 2008 · 6 Comments

I found out that Melody and I are tentatively scheduled to live on the third floor in one of the apartment buildings at Pittsburgh.  That’s right, the third floor.  Which sucks.  Why?  Because we own a couch.  Are there elevators in the apartment building?  No.  No elevators.  But definitely a big honkin’ couch.

*If anyone from Pittsburgh is reading this, don’t misunderstand me - I’m extremely grateful to get housing at the seminary.  I just don’t like moving couches up stairs.

Academia Doesn’t Get It

January 12, 2008 · 4 Comments

I was filling out my application to a seminary which will remain unnamed, and was asked to reflect on my past Christian experience, the most significant spiritual event or influence in my life, the role of Christ in my religious experience, how my faith affects my worldview, my involvement in Christian service, my gifts for ministry, and my reasons for attending the church I do.  I expected roughly a 1,200 word essay.  Nope - 300 words only.

I gave them like 450.  That’s the best they’re going to get.

After talking with some friends last night, I’ve decided to throw Dubuque in the mix of seminary choices.
